Saxophonist Owen Broder and his quintet celebrate the release of “Hodges: Front and Center, Vol. 1.” With his all-star quintet (trumpeter Alphonso Horne, pianist Carmen Staaf, bassist Barry Stephenson, and drummer Jamie Eblen), Broder highlights the artistry of the illustrious alto saxophonist, Johnny Hodges, he of the distinctive tone that served the band so well during his decades on the road as one of the signature voices in the Duke Ellington Orchestra. You will experience the beauty and elegance of the original arrangements from Hodges’ often overlooked catalogue, with a deeply felt modern vibrancy in these fresh interpretations.
